First 1997 Yankee for decommissioning

On April 8-10 strategic nuclear-powered submarine K-418 of Yankee class (project 667A) was transferred to the Zvezdochka yard dry dock for decommissioning. This is the first submarine to be decommissioned at Severodvinsk this year.

The K-418 was put into operation at the Northern Fleet on September 22 1970. The submarine was taken out of service in 1988-89. Defuelling was started on December 19 1996 and finished by January 27 1997.

All Yankee class submarines are to be decomissioned according to the Start arms reduction agreement.
